Spring Selections: Caulfield Guineas Day

Spring racing is well and truly here and with four Group 1's on Saturday Caulfield Guineas card we've got the inside scoop from Adelaide's leading tipster for the big day.

This week's tips are from's Adam McGrath and James Jordan, the voice of South Australian racing Terry McAuliffe and The Advertiser's Lincoln Moore.

Group 1 Caulfield Stakes

Adam McGrath: Bonneval - Quality mare that just knows how to win. She's won at the track, she loves racing over a trip and a mare in form is always hard to beat.

James Jordan: Hartnell - Can't knock Bonneval but she's been fortunate with the fast tempos she been chasing in both runs this prep. If this turns into a sit/sprint I think Hartnell can turn the tables.

Terry McAuliffe: Hartnell - Wonderful horse who is always hard to beat.

Lincoln Moore: Bonneval - Hard to find a knock on her given the way she's come back in the spring. Shooting for her seventh successive win and even better suited out to the 2000m. She's going to take some beating in this and again next week in the Caulfield Cup.

Group 1 Thousand Guineas

Adam McGrath: Alizee - She's a very classy filly that has shown the 1600m is ideal. Her wins over 1200m have been very impressive and her closing sectionals may be too good for this field.

James Jordan: Alizee - Really think this shapes as a two-horse race. If Alizee turns up in the same order she did in the Flight then I think she'll win. If not, it leaves the door open for Shoals.

Terry McAuliffe: Shoals - Beaten for the first time last start when runner up. Blinkers on first time will see her back in the winner's stall.

Lincoln Moore: Booker - Gritty effort in the Tranquil Star when she sat up on the speed and pulled out plenty in the straight to score. Drawn a touch wide but can put herself in the spot and should take some beating.

Group 1 Caulfield Guineas

Adam McGrath: Royal Symphony - I don't think last start was as bad as other are making out. The win the previous start at Flemington was unbelievable and a performance of a very good horse. This race maps better for him and he's still the one to beat.

James Jordan: Royal Symphony - Not much between the first three in the market for mine, but the little weight pull and the addition of winkers has me leaning towards this colt.

Terry McAuliffe: Royal Symphony - Happy to give him another chance after his last start fourth.

Lincoln Moore: Royal Symphony - Tony McEvoy gets his chance at another big Group 1 here with Royal Symphony who tasted defeat for the first time last start. He was a long way back in a on pace race, a genuine tempo here and out to the mile will see him getting over the top of rivals.

Group 1 Toorak Handicap

Adam McGrath: Mr Sneaky - His second last start was full of merit. The speed didn't help him at all and he was always going to be run down. The tempo looks more advantageous for him here and he's shown that he's capable of winning a Group 1.

James Jordan: Theanswermyfriend - Had to admire the way he stuck on in the Rupert Clarke given how fast they went early. With a couple of slow midrace sectionals he can produce a good kick.

Terry McAuliffe: Tosen Stardom - In a tough race going for Weir and the Japanese import Tosen Stardom.

Lincoln Moore: Egg Tart - SA punters got a close look at the Chris Waller-trained mare's ability when she defeated Kenedna in the Oaks in Adelaide before going to Queensland and claiming her second Group 1 win. Has had an interesting lead-up and comes off a good trial behind a genuine hope in the Everest. Damien Oliver on and drawn to get a good run in the middle, could be a star.
