End of Outback Cup Championship Series at Jamestown Cup this weekend

AFL Grand Final day is also the final day of the 2018 Outback Cups Championship Series with the running of the Railway Hotel/Coopers Jamestown Cup. A six race card of racing at Jamestown kicks off at 12.47pm with the main Cup Race at 3.12pm (race five).

Six races make up the Outback Cups Championship Series, with previous heats already staged at Port Augusta, Hawker, Roxby Downs and Quorn. With points awarded throughout the Series for both participation and performance, the leading horse at the conclusion of the events secures a $2,000 bonus for their owner/s and a $1,000 bonus for their trainer.

Two horses contesting the Railway Hotel/Coopers Jamestown Cup on Saturday remain in contention to claim the overall Series award. Presently Eigelstein prepared by Kylie McKerlie at Port Augusta sits atop of the points table, however Aldolphin and Betterthanyouthink are capable of winning the title with a required performance on the weekend.

The Sue Nolan trained Aldophin won an earlier leg of the Series in claiming the Port Augusta Cup, and just a top four finish in Saturday’s Jamestown Cup would see him claim the bonus. This is provided the Mark Moosha galloper Betterthanyouthink does not win Saturday which would give him the outright title, unless Aldolphin runs second which would still see him secure the award.

Favouritism for the Cup on Saturday is likely to be disputed by three horses. The trio are:

  • Former N.S.W. galloper Oh So Unfair who is coming off a win second up in SA at Murray Bridge for new trainer Shayne Cahill
  • Jordan Frew has the veteran Umaluka racing in great form with a win and three second placings at his past four starts
  • Spiegel Grove from the Darren Magro stable who has won three of his past five starts
