The Queen of SA set to climb The Everest

The Queen of SA and one of Australia’s finest sprinters, Viddora looks set to take her place in next weekend’s $13 million TAB Everest.

Injuries to Gai Waterhouse’s two runners, English and Invincible Star meant that two last minute slots opened up and after her dominant win in last Friday’s Group 1 Moir Stakes, slot holder Damion Flower jumped at the chance to lock in the SA Sprint Queen.

After narrowly going down in last year’s Moir, Viddora always looked in control of Friday night’s edition and comfortably made up for last year’s heartbreaking loss with a 1.25 length win over the Darren Weir trained Brave Smash who will be one of her rivals next Saturday.

Despite her ultra-impressive win in the Moir, Lloyd Kennewell’s mare is currently rated a $13 chance with UBET in Australia’s richest race. While that may seem overs, she will be coming up against one of the hottest fields in Australia racing.

Last year’s winner Redzel returns to the track where he claimed the $6 million winner’s cheque and while he ran out of legs in his last start, the Peter and Paul Snowden trained star will be in the race up to his eye-balls once again.

Vega Magic and Santa Ana Lane, the 2017 and 2018 Group 1 Goodwood winners are current $7 favourites with UBET along with three-time Group 1 winner Trapeze Artist, while this year’s Group 1 UBET Classic winner, Shoals is next on the line of betting at $8.

The Anthony Freedman trained Santa Ana Lane been in great form after winning the Goodwood, claiming the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap in June but more importantly winning last Saturday’s Group 2 Premiere Stakes at Randwick where he beat four of his likely rivals in the Everest including Redzel.

While the second edition of the Everest looks set to be as tantalising and open as the first, there’s no doubt in every South Australian pub, club and lounge room, all punters will be cheering on the SA sprint star Viddora.
