Two $100,000 SABOIS events at Murray Bridge

Murray Bridge Racing Club will host the sixth running of two $100,000 breeders’ incentive races on Saturday, contributing to the club’s richest ever race day.

A record $456,500 is up for grabs at the meeting, highlighted by the Magic Millions Two-Year-Old Plate and the Carlton Draught Three-Year-Old Plate, both over 1200m and reserved for fully qualified SABOIS (SA Breeders’ & Owners’ Incentive Scheme) horses.

The SABOIS initiative aims to maximise interest in qualified horses and provides financial rewards to breeders or nominators, owners, trainers and jockeys over and above prizemoney earned.

The previous five runnings of both races have been at Morphettville.

Victorian trainer George Osborne won the two-year-old event last year with Toolbar, ridden by Victorian apprentice Jessica Eaton. Coincidentally, Jessica is temporarily relocating to Adelaide this weekend and Saturday’s meeting will the first of her local stint.

Victorian-based trainer Mark Kavanagh landed last year’s three-year-old feature with Santorini Summer, ridden by Joe Bowditch.

Early favourite for this year’s two-year-old event is the Leon Macdonald-Andrew Gluyas stable’s Daily Spirit, who finished a strong third behind potential star Instant Celebrity a fortnight ago. The stable has a strong hand in the event, with four runners entered.

Meanwhile last Saturday’s impressive Morphettville Parks winner, Streetcar Stranger, is among the top picks for the three-year-old event, along with Air Marshal, who finished fourth in a metropolitan-class race at Murray Bridge last start, despite missing the start badly, and the fast-finisher, Calypso Reign.
