TRSA’s Pony Clubs sponsorship

Sponsorship from Thoroughbred Racing South Australia is helping out the state’s hamstrung Pony Clubs, including two still feeling the impacts of bushfire.

Unable to conduct events for most of the year, clubs will – with the support of TRSA – instead use sponsorship money to improve their facilities.

Among those is the Port Lincoln Pony Club, which was decimated by a fire that swept through on November 19 last year.

The club’s fencing, internal yards and round yards were destroyed in the fire, along with other infrastructure, equipment and trailers.

“That $500 went towards a cost of the sand in the base for the round yard…” said Port Lincoln Pony Club treasurer, Candii Rowett.

“We’re incredibly grateful for the donation and assistance from TRSA and PCASA (Pony Club Association of South Australia) Southern Zone.”

The sponsorship was originally intended to help clubs host state championship events, however it was decided to redirect some of the funding towards the Port Lincoln and Belvidere clubs, with the latter impacted by the Sampson Flat fires of 2015.

The remainder of the funds was used to purchase banners for the association’s seven respective SA zones, plus a permanent banner for the Monarto Equestrian Centre, and to upgrade facilities for 2021 state championships to be held in the three zones that were unable to hold the 2020 competitions.

These include PCASA state ODE (one day event) and state ODE championships, as well as dressage, show jumping and games states.

PCASA currently has over 900 financial riding members, comprising 544 females and 53 boys aged under 26, and 265 females and 24 boys aged over 26.
