Hickmott dreams of perfect finish to 2020

Murray Bridge horseman Michael Hickmott can finish 2020 in style when Don’tdreamit’sover tackles today’s $102,250 Alcopop Series Final at Morphettville.

It has been a big year for South Australia’s most progressive young trainer.

He sits third on the SA trainers’ premiership with an imposing strike-rate of 31.5 per cent while he was recently announced as the foundation trainer at Murray Bridge to complement the purchase of a new property at Lakewood Stud.

Hickmott has targeted the mile feature with European import Don’tdreamit’sover and said he was confident the horse would have no issue with a quick turnaround after winning at Morphettville last Saturday.

“He was very good last week winning against the pattern,” Hickmott said.

“He won off a 10-day break in England, so backing up from last Saturday shouldn’t be a worry.

“He’s drawn a tricky gate for a horse like him and where he lands will probably determine the outcome.”

Don’tdreamit’sover is marked a $3 favourite with tab.com.au in a feature final loaded with depth.

Bordertown galloper Territory Titan will chase his sixth win from his past nine start from an awkward wide gate and is marked a $7 second favourite. That pair and Will Clarken’s Dazzling Damsel ($4.80) are the only horses in single figure odds in a race that has no less than eight last-start winners.

Jake Stephens will try and win the race named in honour of his former star galloper Alcopop by saddling up Rapid Raiser and Boomer Beach, while former New South Wales apprentice Stacey Metcalfe can kick-start her SA riding career aboard Icecrusher for Shayne Cahill.

She has three rides including Justedee for boss John Hyam, marked a $3.10 favourite earlier in the day.
