Bill Holland Series continues at Penong

The third round of Racing SA’s annual Bill Holland Series will be run at tomorrow’s Penong Cup meeting.

The opening two rounds of the six-round series were held at Ceduna on January 16 and Lock on Valentines Day.

Four prizes are up for grabs as part of the Eyre Peninsula-focused initiative.

The winning trainer of the series – based on aggregate points earned by all runners – will receive a bonus of $3000.

The owner or owners of the individual horse accruing the most points will receive a bonus of $2000, while the horse’s trainer will receive $1000.

Finally, the winning jockey of the series – based only on finishing points earned in each heat – will receive a trophy and a $250 bonus.

Port Lincoln-based Des Courtney is leading the trainers’ award after the first two rounds, while his horse, Givepeace a Chance, is the leading horse, ahead of Dance of Heroes.

Courtney and Givepeace a Chance have the opportunity to extend their respective leads in the 1600m Penong Cup tomorrow.

Meanwhile Desiree Stra and David Tootell Sr are level pegging for jockeys’ honours.

The Holland Family sponsor the series each year, while superstar Australian-turned international jockey Brett Prebble donates a whip for the jockeys’ award.
