SA Goodwood quartet ticking over nicely

South Australia’s top sprinters are ticking all the right boxes as they head towards Saturday week’s $502,250 Group 1 Goodwood.

SA-trained horses occupy the top four positions in the market; Behemoth a $3.50 favourite ahead of Gytrash ($4) with Beau Rossa and Instant Celebrity sharing the third line of betting at $7.

Gytrash has come through his crucial gallop between races at Murray Bridge on Wednesday in good order and trainer Gordon Richards indicated he may give the horse another jump-out at Morphettville on Tuesday as he seeks redemption for a narrow defeat in last year’s Group 1 feature.

“He pulled up great,” Richards said.

“I still think I’ll give him a jump-out on Tuesday.

“You have to juggle it a little bit (depending) how they pull-up. You don’t want to flatten him, but he’s been really good in everything he’s done this time around.”

Likewise, Behemoth’s trainer David Jolly could not fault his horse after his final solid piece of work at the Murray Bridge jump-outs on Thursday.

“He went well,” Jolly said.

“We’re all happy heading towards next Saturday.

“He’ll probably just float around here. He’ll go down to the beach and he might just have an easy gallop on Tuesday.”

Tommy Stokes said Instant Celebrity had also come through her TAB Classic victory in perfect order.

“She’s had a good week,” he said.

“She won’t have to do a lot between now and the Goodwood.”
