Wide gates for SA’s Kingsford Smith hopes

Group 1 Goodwood winner Savatoxl and fellow South Australia sprint star Gytrash will have to overcome wide gates in Saturday’s $700,000 Group 1 Kingsford-Smith Cup (1300m) at Eagle Farm in Brisbane.

Gytrash is marked a $4 favourite with tab.com.au and will jump from barrier 15 while Savatoxl drew immediately his inside in 14.

Gytrash travelled to Melbourne on Monday night and is scheduled to fly to Brisbane this afternoon where he will again be ridden by Jason Collett.

Barend Vorster will stay with Savatoxl in the feature who is considered a $15 chance.

Jamie Kah will partner Vega One, who finished fourth in last year’s Stradbroke, in the feature for local horseman Tony Gollan.

South Australian Derby winner Explosive Jack and runner-up – and stablemate – Let’s Karaka Deal dominate betting for the $600,000 Group 1 Queensland Derby.

Explosive Jack is marked $2.80 chasing a fourth Derby win in his three-year-old season with Let’s Karaka Deal currently an $8 second favourite.

Kah has been booked to ride Mark Kavanagh’s Horrifying in the Derby.
