Lincoln Moore's Penola preview

BEST BET: OUR BOY BAILEY (Race 5)

EACH-WAY: DUGGEE’S BOY (Race 3)

VALUE: PEWTER (Race 7)

RACE 1 - 12:10PM The Sebastopol Machinery for Goldacres Distance Maiden Plate (2100 METRES)

The scratching of Resolutions leaves M'LADY LOIS as the horse to beat. Placed at two of her past four, she looks hard to beat over the trip on her solid effort behind Gondolier last time. FAST FOILS was OK in the same race behind Gondolier last time and has claims, along with BACK IN ACTION, who draw a nice gate. ARIZONA DRIFTER wasn’t far away at Hamilton three starts back and that form would stack up well in a race like this, while SOUMAH was good behind Lutz at Strathalbyn and is on the quick back-up.

SELECTIONS: M’LADY LOUIS, Fast Foil, Arizona Drifter

RACE 2 - 12:45PM Somerset Hotel Maiden Plate (1100 METRES)

The Mick Price and Michael Kent Jr yard don’t have too many Penola runners, if any, in recent memory and MUTINOUS has been gelded since he was placed at Ballarat behind The Waterman. That looks good enough to be winning here. MONTIGN trialled OK behind Prince Saiyan, who has won at Port Augusta since, and looks a danger if any from a good barrier. BEAUMIS has been handy in both runs and should be among the multiples here.

SELECTIONS: MUTINOUS, Montign, Beaumis

RACE 3 - 1:20PM Festival Hire Maiden Handicap (1400 METRES)

DUGGEE'S BOY draws a tricky barrier but has been placed at two of his past three and gets in well with the claim for Jacob Opperman. KEETTOM wasn’t far away behind Crooked Creek at Hamilton last time and should be in then finish here. NED AND POWER is mixing form but was placed at Hamilton two starts back and should be thereabouts in a race like this. This is a big drop in class for AEROPORT who gets blinkers and the Jon O’Connor stable is going well, while DUCK DIVE ran OK at Balaklava behind Ye Hella at Balaklava.

SELECTIONS: DUGGEE’S BOY, Keetom, Ned And Power

RACE 4 - 1:55PM DiGiorgio Family Wines Benchmark 58 Handicap (1100 METRES)

ATOMIC WIZARD draws out but gets in well with the claim and this looks a winnable race for him after chasing home some handy horses recently. ATOMIC TEXIE can ride the speed from a good barrier and was only nailed late by Justa Jillaroo start. ANRUSHKA won at Bordertown three starts back, SWEET DISTRACTION was good Balaklava maiden winner and comes out of a stronger race at Morphettville. ANKARA FOX draws a good gate and could improve second-up.

SELECTIONS: ATOMIC WIZARD, Atomic Texie, Sweet Distraction

RACE 5 - 2:35PM The George Benchmark 54 Handicap (1700 METRES)

Looks an opportune race for OUR BOY BAILEY to bounce back. He has been racing in handy races and his only win came in an OK race at Gawler when he led and dictated up front. He is also aided by the booking of Todd Pannell. Victorian SOUTH BEND was placed at Horsham last start and has trialled over the jumps since. MULGA LIL was OK at Naracoorte two starts back and looks suited in a race lacking some depth, while SISTER DEE looks up to a race like this on her best form.

SELECTIONS: OUR BOY BAILEY, South End, Mulga Lil

RACE 6 - 3:10PM 3MP Steel, Roofing and Fencing Supplies Millicent Cup (2100 METRES)

The Price/Kent Jr stable again looks right in the box seat here with MISS DAMITA, who was too good for Black Sail at Warrnambool earlier this preparation and is dropping sharply in class on last time at Caulfield when she chased home Ruby Skye. Jacob Opperman gives the claim. A good barrier and blinkers for the first time make her the clear top pick. ANDREA MANTEGNA would take some stopping in a race like this on his form last campaign. He’s back with David Jolly now and this looks a very winnable race if he can roll along on speed. MUNTHAM MISSILE is another who was racing well last time in work and his Warrnambool run two starts back behind Tooradin is good form for this. VON COSTA GLASS draws a nice gate and chased home Canford last time out.

SELECTIONS: MISS DAMITA, Andrea Mantegna, Muntham Missile

RACE 7 - 3:50PM John Chay and Co Livestock Benchmark 68 Handicap (1300 METRES)

He’s got plenty of weight even after the claim but happy to stay with ROHLON DRUNK chasing three on end. He beat Desert Spirit at Naracoorte before being well found at Warracknabeal. He’s poorly drawn but looks a major chance again. BLACK SYRAH would be right in this on his effort behind Lord Vladivostok at Morphettville two runs back. OLATUNJI comes off a Hamilton win and draws a nice barrier. PEWTER is over the odds despite a wide gate and is capable with some luck in running, while WILD COLONIAL BOY, PRETTY GLASS and STAR JAN all have some claims in a very open race.

SELECTIONS: ROHLON DRUNK, Black Syrah, Pewter

RACE 8 - 4:20PM Ned, Nan & Sue Memorial Benchmark 58 Handicap (1400 METRES)

LONGMIRE has been racing well and chased home Exalted Maxine at Bordertown last start. He draws a sticky gate but gets in well after the claim and looks well placed. MAGIC REWARD has each-way appeal on her Oakbank win recently and draws a nice barrier. MISS MOSH is a track specialist with three wins from five starts here and looks nicely suited. FREE OF SIN draws an inside gate and comes out of a handy race at Gawler won by Trumpsta. BUBBLERAP has been freshened and must be respected in this class.

SELECTIONS: LONGMIRE, Magic Reward, Miss Mosh
