Jolly duo set sights on Flemington

Richard and Chantelle Jolly will head to Flemington armed with two last start winners on Saturday.

The stable has opted for Melbourne over Murray Bridge for Poysed To Rein who is marked a $4.60 favourite with tab.com.au from barrier 13 with Jamie Kah booked to ride, while Damien Lane will partner Somewatt Fabulous who is a $5 chance on the back of her impressive debut victory at Morphettville.

“The market tells the story,’’ Jolly said.

“They’re both short in the market and they’re probably as good of a chance there as they are here at Murray Bridge.

“So it was a good option to go over and try and get a bit of Melbourne form on the CV,’’ he said.

Despite being friendless in betting before scoring a gritty debut win, Jolly said Somewatt Fabulous was a filly who had always shown plenty of talent.

“She won her second jump-out but everyone wanted to reference her first one when she ran third,’’ Jolly said.

“She certainly didn’t surprise me to see her win like she did.

“Initially I was going to turn her out after the win, but we got all that rain and I decided to keep her in the stable.

“She did so well and this Flemington race was on the calendar and I thought there was no reason to not head over.

“She’s done everything right in my eyes,’’ he said.

Jolly said Poysed To Rein was a mare with plenty of talent but had been her own worst enemy which is why the five-year-old has managed just the 14 starts.

“She’s been a mare who has been hard to keep right,’’ Jolly said.

“It’s not so much soundness, it’s stable injuries which held her back.

“She was very good first-up and if she can stay in that form she will win a few more races and is certainly not out of her depth. She’s back in mares grade dropping seven kilos and has Jamie Kah,’’ he said.

Both horses were marked favourite in their respective Adelaide races where Jake Toeroek was booked to ride as he closes in on his 500th career win. Toeroek will now partner Sparkup for the stable.

“He’s (Sparkup) been a frustrating horse,’’ Jolly said.

“He’s been beaten by small margins, he’s one of those horses he needs to start coverting those into wins,’’ he said.

Jolly’s brother David will also have a Melbourne runner with Toff Love heading back over the border with Jamie Kah booked to ride while Murray Bridge horseman Rob Wilkinson heads back with Master Chum who finished third last start. Damian Lane takes the ride on Master Chum.
