Enchantingly delivers Westover's magic moment

Emotions were high after Enchantingly provided Scott Westover his first Morphettville victory as a trainer on Saturday.

It has a been a rollercoaster year for the former jockey who packed up his stable in Alice Springs and returned to Adelaide where he carved out a career in the saddle.

“We took a risk by moving to South Australia,’’ Westover said.

“We went (out) on a limb and trusted ourselves,’’ he said.

While some of his team didn’t make the grade, the decision to buy the former Chris Waller mare has proven a fruitful one after she dominated her rivals to win just under two lengths with Todd Pannell in the saddle.

“She’s thrived with us, we give a lot of TLC, she’s a big gross mare who carries a lot of condition,’’ Westover said.

“I think she can measure up and go to better races,’’ he said.

Westover, a key member of the Will Clarken stable, is in the process of making a return to race riding while building his team after securing a dual licence.

“I was hoping to be ready to ride at the start of the new season, but it’s taken a bit longer than I’d hoped to get the weight off,’’ Westover said.

“Riding work with Toddy (Pannell) and being great mates with Jake (Toeroek) has really triggered me to want to get back race riding.

“There are some good opportunities for jockeys back up north (in the NT), so the plan is to still build the stable here and I can head up there and ride when the demand is there,’’ he said.

Teagan Voorham had a dream return to race riding winning aboard Extra Time for Leon Macdonald and Andrew Gluyas early in the day.

Extra Time was the first leg of a winning double for the stable with Pimm’s Party making an impressive return to racing with Jason Holder in the saddle.

Meanwhile Grinzinger Star continued his resurgence to win Saturday’s Quorn Cup.

A one-time Derby prospect when n the Danny O’Brien stable, Grinzinger Star has now won three of five starts since joining the Kylie McKerlie stable.
