Exciting South East galloper Royal Mile will launch his spring carnival campaign at Morphettville on Saturday.
Trainer Lee Creek has a light preparation in mind for the promising four-year-old who won the Group 3 Chairman’s Stakes before running fifth behind Explosive Jack in the Group 1 SA Derby at Morphettville in May.
“He had a really good break and he’s come back really well,’’ Creek said.
“He galloped very good here this morning, Jacob (Opperman) rode him, and I rode against him, so I got to have a good look at him and he was really good,’’ he said.
Creek is confident despite showing ability of the longer trips as a three-year-old Royal Mile is going to be super competitive first-up and suited around the mile as he progresses.
“He’ll sprint well. I wouldn’t pencil him in as a stayer that’s for sure,’’ Creek said.
A brief spring campaign will see connections target some nice races in the autumn and Creek would love to see the horse in a race like the $5m All-Star Mile at Flemington in March.
“I reckon he’ll be better horse in six months time, he hasn’t furnished properly just yet,’’ he said.
Gun apprentice Jacob Opperman will again be in the saddle on Saturday and will get first option of following the horse to Melbourne depending on just how the situation sits when it comes to crossing the border.
“We haven’t really worked it out, Jacob is the last piece of the puzzle,’’ Creek said.
“We’ll get Saturday out of the way first, but he will have first offer when we go to Melbourne,’’ he said.
