Hickmott hopeful of hometown hurrah

Michael Hickmott takes two leading chances into his hometown feature in Friday’s $107,250 Murray Bridge Gold Cup (1600m).

Former New Zealand pair Lord Vladivostok and Don’tdreamit’sover head to the race on the back of last-start placings and last season’s Metropolitan Premiership winning trainer is confident they will both run well.

Lord Vladivostok was scheduled to run first-up in Melbourne but missed the race, forcing him to resume in Adelaide where he was narrowly beaten carrying eight kilograms more than the winner.

“We had to run him with 62kg…. I was delighted with the run,’’ Hickmott said.

“I think the horse will benefit from the run and really peak second-up as we’ve seen in the past,’’ he said.

Stablemate Don’tdreamit’sover finished third in the same race but faces a tricky wide gate with Callan Murray booked to ride.

“I’m sure both horses will perform well on the day,’’ Hickmott said.

Will Clarken saddles up the top weight Ironclad hoping to get a rocky campaign back on track.

Ironclad stamped himself as a horse with a big future in his first campaign but has been plagued by setbacks through the spring.

“He’s been quite frustrating,’’ Clarken said.

“He’s had a lot of setbacks; I think he’s the classiest horse in my stable.

“I think he’ll be right in the finish,’’ he said.

Lord Vladivostok is marked a $3.80 favourite with tab.com.au ahead of Ironclad ($5.50) who not only has the top weight, but an outside barrier drawn in gate 18.
