Winning Post-1800m: inside two lanes have more wear and as per usual it's probably the wettest part of the track. I thought it walked a '7' in the worst spots. Coverage is improving with the weather, still some sandfill across inside lanes but nothing remarkable.
1800m-1200m: good length of grass here with only minor wear and fill across the inside two lanes. Should race evenly through this section and walks on the better side of a '6' rating.
1200m-800m: minor wear across all lanes. Fresher areas of sandfill across the inside two lanes but it’s not abundant and those lanes don’t walk any slower than further out. Walks a '6', no obvious edge in any particular lanes but won't be a rush to find the rail either.
800m-400m: it still walks quite evenly in this section. I get the feeling that as the day progresses they might wear out the inside a touch. The inside lanes told together well until you reach the 400m mark where the wear is more significant on the fence. Walks a '6' but you might find them starting to edge off the rail approaching the turn.
400m-Winning Post: lanes 1 and 2 have clearly more sandfill and it walks like slower ground. I thought the crown of the track in about lane 6 or 7 was the superior part of the track in this section. If there are plenty of winners against the fence then I've made an error in my summation, I thought they'd use plenty of the track here. Walks in the '6' range.
Verdict: Should race pretty well in general and the grass is definitely coming on with the fine weather this week. I thought the area of note was the entrance to the straight and the last 400m where I felt the inside ground was inferior. I predict they'll get off the fence in the straight and lanes 3-8 would be the best ground. A touch of rain about but I'd be doing the form for a '6' rating.
